Teen Pleads Not Guilty To Killing Baby

Video will be available shortly.

A Fruitvale teen accused of killing her healthy newborn entered a not guilty plea at the Mesa County Justice Center Tuesday.

A jury trial has been set for 18-year-old Cheyenne Corbett who pleaded not guilty to charges of first degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. The trial is scheduled to begin July 10, just 12 days before what would have been the baby’s first birthday. It’s expected to last eight days.

On July 22 authorities say the then 17-year-old Corbett delivered her baby girl in a shower at her parent’s home, then wrapped the infant’s body in a towel and hid her in an entertainment center where she later died.

At this time Corbett remains free on a $100,000 bond. She will be back in court in June for a pre-trial conference.
