After months of driving more than 20 miles to get medication, residents of Parachute will finally get a brand new pharmacy, and it's the only one in town.
The new Clark's Market is finally bringing something Battlement Mesa residents say they need desperately.
For 25 years, Parachute and Battlement Mesa residents used City Market to get their prescriptions filled, but last July the store closed their doors causing a huge detour for medication.
The closest pharmacy is 20 miles away in Rifle.
The problem got so bad the city created a shuttle service to drive residents to get their prescriptions filled.
Inside the new store, Clark's, a sign reads, "He who has health has hope." Finally, local residents have hope for their health.
With the new store, Manager Brent Buss says a new pharmacy comes with it, "It will be so much more convenient for everybody once we have a pharmacy open again."
The new pharmacy is set to fill its first prescription by Oct. 15.
While Clark's will have a medication monopoly on Battlement Mesa, Buss says don't expect over–priced pills.
