An out-of-control car smashed into a telephone pole in Palisade Monday. The accident forced the pole through the windshield of the car injuring the passenger in the vehicle.
It happened in Palisade Monday night. According to the Colorado State Patrol, a Toyota Solara driven by a 21-year-old man was headed eastbound on Highway 6 near 36 Road with one passenger in it.
Troopers say it left the road, hit a boulder, then hit a massive concrete irrigation box. They say it then ran into a telephone pole.
A large portion of the pole split off and went through the car's windshield.
Witnesses say the pole pierced the passenger's arm.
The car was on fire when emergency responders arrived on scene, but it was quickly extinguished.
The boulder that was hit rolled past the car into a yard and smashed several pieces of lawn furniture.
Both driver and passenger were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The car was destroyed.
Investigators say they found several weapons inside the car, including a BB gun and several large knives.
