Controlled Burn Gets Out Of Control

Video will be available shortly.

The fire started around 1:45 p.m. on private property north of the 29 Road Bridge.

No structures were damaged but there was potential for a trailer and a couple cars near the area to catch on fire. The burning season started March 1st. Authorities say the owners did have a permit to burn but weren't as prepared as they could be. That's why it's important to have a long hose that can reach potential hazardous areas. Although the fire did not cause any structure damage it took a lot of time and manpower to contain the nearly eight acre blaze. Some nearby power lines also had to be shut off for about an hour. The 29 Road Bridge was also closed to traffic both ways for about an hour. It reopened to traffic at about 3:30 Monday afternoon.

Burn permits can be picked up at the fire department that handles your area or the Mesa County Health Department for some parts of Mesa County.
