An elderly woman crashed her car into a drainage ditch Wednesday afternoon.
According to officials at the Grand Junction Fire Department, the 68-year-old woman took a u-turn too wide and ended up in a ditch off of 28 Road.
Bystanders saw the woman go off the road and called 911. The Fire Department responded and used an ax to free the woman. The woman was uninjured in the crash and was able to climb up a ladder to safety.
Street crews with the City of Grand Junction were called out to make sure leaking fluids from the woman's car didn't end up in the Colorado River.
The woman was cited for careless driving.
