Former Colorado TV Anchor Donates Kidney to Friend

Los Angeles (AP) A former Colorado television news anchor has donated a kidney to a friend, an employee at a rival station.

KABC morning co-anchor Phillip Palmer underwent surgery early Wednesday in Los Angeles to remove one of his kidneys, which was then transplanted into Dale Davis.

Davis works as a video editor for KCAL and KCBS in Los Angeles.

Doctors told Davis that dialysis would keep him alive, but what he really needed was a kidney.

Palmer -- a morning anchor at Denver's KCNC in the mid 1990s -- had himself tested, and found out he was a perfect match.

KABC reports Palmer and Davis are both doing well.

Doctors say Davis' new kidney started functioning almost immediately.
