Two Firefighters Injured During Routine Training Exercise

Two Palisade Firefighters were sent to the hospital Saturday afternoon after a routine training operation became too intense.

The two firefighters were taken to St. Mary's Hospital with first degree burns on their arms.

It happened in the 11 o'clock hour while the Palisade Firefighters were participating in a live training exercise at a donated house on West 8th Street.

Fire Chief Richard Rupp says the men were dehydrated and suffered steam burns. Rupp adds that the firefighters' burns will most likely be like a bad sunburn and will probably peel.

The chief says while it's unfortunate his men were injured, training like this is invaluable.

The men have been released from the hospital.
