McGady, NC. (AP) - It was a volunteer's rescue dog that led searchers to a boy scout lost in the rugged North Carolina Mountains. The searcher who found Michael Auberry Tuesday says the boy was hungry, thirsty and “a little disoriented,” but appeared to be in good shape.
The 12-year-old was found on a wooded ridge about a mile from the camp he had wandered away from on Saturday.
Misha Marshall says the boy was across a stream from the trail when her dog, caught his scent. She says he wasn't calling for help.
Rescuers carried the boy to a ranger station, where he was met by his parents and a medical team. he was later taken by ambulance to a hospital.
