Charged Astronaut gets New Navy Job

Corpus Christi, Texas (AP) The former astronaut fired by NASA After being charged with trying to kidnap a romantic rival will now help develop flight-lesson plans as part of her new military assignment.

A navy spokesman says Lisa Nowak will also develop curriculum and training programs when she joins the staff of the Chief of Naval Air Training Command in Corpus Christi next month.

Nowak was originally expected to report for work this week.

She was arrested on February 5th on suspicion of confronting a romantic rival in an airport parking lot. Police in Orlando, Florida, say she pepper-sprayed the woman -- the girlfriend of another astronaut -- and that she had a BB gun, steel mallet, knife and rubber tubing in her possession.

NASA fired Nowak a month later. She is free on bail.
