GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Nothing says fall like getting lost in a corn maze on a crisp October day.

But this year families are going to have a harder time enjoying that tradition. Corn mazes in nearby fields can provide tons of fun, but there are fewer mazes this year than there have been in the past.

"It's more than just picking a pumpkin out of a bin,” says Kim Constable, one of the owners of Studt’s Pumpkin Patch and Corn Maze. “It's a tradition. It's a family experience."

Corn mazes have been captivating children and adults for decades, and they can be found in fields all over the country.

But, as Constable says, this year there are fewer choices for maze hunters in the Grand Valley.

"Our business increases every year,” says Constable. “However this year we've really noticed a difference with Jouflas farms not being around, which is unfortunate."

The next closest maze can be found in Olathe.

The Studt's maze has not only increased its business, but it has also increased in difficulty this year. Maze owners Kim and Bret Constable, and landowner Ward Studt flew in a designer from Wisconson who used a gps system to design the intricate shape of a friendly–looking scarecrow in the field.

"This year we wanted it to be a little more challenging, a little more difficult, but so they'll eventually come out of the corn!" Constable says.

The maze is meant for kids, ages five and up, and adults who want to feel like a kid again.

Studt’s Corn Maze
Where: North of Highway 6 & 50 on 22 Road, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Maze opened Thursday, Oct. 1, with special activities being added all the time. They say it's the best maze to date.

Friday - 4:30 - 10 p.m.

DeVries Corn Maze
Where: 8688 60.25 Road in Olathe, between Montrose and Olathe on U.S. Highway 50, between mile markers 85 and 86, on the west side, includes three miles of trails
Hours: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m
Prices: $6.50 for adults (13-60), $4.50 for kids (4-12) and seniors (60+), and the family package is $20 for four, then $3 each additional family member. Group rates and night mazes will be available upon special request.
