Authorities say three children under the age of five may have been walking the streets alone for anywhere from a half hour to an hour, and now their mother is facing charges.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office, along with the Department of Human Services, is handling the case.
Officials say a four–year–old and a set of 18–month–old twins were found wandering the streets near Canyon Land Drive Thursday afternoon. The mother says she fell asleep and didn't realize the kids were gone, but authorities say this isn't the first time the woman's kids have been found outside alone.
At this time the woman's name is not being released but she is facing three counts of child abuse and three counts of child neglect. The Department of Human Services has removed the children from the home.
