Grand Junction Woman Gears Up To Compete In Miss USA Pageant

It's almost every little girls dream to become Miss USA,
and for one Grand Junction girl it could soon be a reality.

It's a night of glamour, guts, and glitz- it's the Miss USA Pageant. This year one of Western Slope's own is competing: it's Miss Colorado Keena Bonella.

More than 50 people, including Keena's dad and step-mom and even City Councilman Bruce Hill, are in California to cheer her on. They've been watching her practice and the excitement is building. 11 News spoke with her dad Mark who says they've been watching her in rehearsals and she's been doing great. Keena's step-mom says she's confident and ready to compete.

Keena has told 11 News in the past that her favorite part of the pageant is the swimsuit competition. Keena says she works very hard to keep her body in shape and it's rewarding to show it off. But her dad has mixed feelings about that portion of the pageant. He says it's hard to see his daughter walk out on stage in a bathing suit. He says part of him wants to look and cheer, and the other part of him wants to close his eyes.

But while it may be hard for dad to see his baby girl strut her stuff, Keena's hoping the nation will tune in.

You can catch the Miss USA Pageant on KKCO NBC 11 News on Friday night at 8:00 p.m.

11 News would like to wish Keena Bonella good luck!
