A road rage case against a former Fruita Police officer and Mesa County Sheriff's Deputy has been dropped.
According to District Attorney Pete Hautzinger, his office had no choice but to dismiss the case against Howard Lee Prince.
Hautzinger says two key witnesses in the case significantly changed their stories while on the witness stand and suddenly couldn’t identify Prince.
The DA says ethically they could not move forward with a prosecution.
Prince was facing several misdemeanor charges including assault and trespassing stemming from a road rage incident in April.
