Seattle (AP) Denver Nuggets Coach George Karl is in Boise, Idaho, today as his son, Coby, has surgery to remove cancerous lymph nodes.
The surgery is the second in 13 months for Coby Karl, who had his thyroid removed after being diagnosed with papillary carcinoma -- a form of treatable cancer.
He also underwent chemotherapy to try to kill off any remaining cancer cells shortly after his surgery.
The coach says there's a chance he'll miss a couple of games after the surgery is completed. The Nuggets are scheduled to play the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday, and Sacramento on Wednesday.
The lymph node cancer was discovered in mid-January, but the Karls decided to keep the matter private until after the end of Coby's basketball season at Boise State.
