Denver (AP) Reports filed with the federal Veterans Affairs Department show some serious problems at state-run nursing homes for veterans in Colorado last year, including a patient who fell and died at one facility and 42 residents who came down with bed sores at another.
State Officials say one veterans home in Homelake, about 160 south of Denver, is so old that bathrooms in half the home's duplex cottages are inaccessible to people with handicaps.
The facility has 25 cottages housing 46 veterans.
John Johnson, Division Director of the Office of State Veterans and Nursing Homes, says most of the problems have been fixed, except for maintenance of buildings.
State lawmakers are looking at how to provide money to fix Homelake.
