CSU Researcher Predicts Very Active Hurricane Season

Hurricane Wilma October 24th

Fort Collins (AP) Colorado State University hurricane forecaster William Gray is predicting a "very active" hurricane season, with 17 named storms in the Atlantic in 2007.

Those include five intense or major hurricanes, with sustained winds of 111 miles-per-hour or higher.

Gray's forecast says there's a 74 percent probability of a major hurricane making landfall along the U.S. coastline, compared with the average of 52 percent over the past century.

Colorado State hurricane expert Phil Klotzbach says while the research team is calling for a very active hurricane season this year, it will not be as active as the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
