Teen Vandals May Face Felony Charges For Vandalizing A Local Middle School

Vandals strike a local middle school leaving behind a path of destruction for officials to clean up.

Vandals spray painted a marijuana leaf, drug paraphernalia and cuss words on the exterior of Orchard Mesa Middle School. But the suspects didn't stop with spray paint, they also broke out lights and even spread roofing tar on a window and two doors.

Trees that students themselves had planted also felt the vandals wrath. Two trees were broken in half and one was completely ripped out the ground and thrown on the roof.

After receiving several tips the Grand Junction Police Department believes a 13 and 14-year-old are responsible for the damage. Police are asking the District Attorney's Office to charge the boys with a felony charge of criminal mischief and a misdemeanor charge of defacing property.

Damage to the school is estimated to be more than $2,000.
