A man wanted for beating a Grand Junction man to death has been arrested.
Grand Junction Police say Sahr Benjamin Mbawa turned himself in to the Denver Police Department on Friday around 4:30pm.
Officials say they will not release any other details on the arrest until Monday.
Mbawa is facing charges of second degree murder and first degree assault.
On Tuesday, investigators say Mbawa beat Richard Martinez to death outside of Quincy's Bar & Grill. According to an arrest affidavit, Mbawa punched and kicked Martinez in the head and threw him into a pole. The affidavit also says that after the beating, Mbawa went to a gas station off of 32 and E Roads and was overheard bragging about it by a store clerk who called police.
Mbawa has a criminal history. He was last arrested in Gunnison County, September 11, for allegedly beating a man in a Safeway parking lot in Rifle. The victim told police Mbawa possibly broke one of his legs and his nose.
Police have not said when Mbawa might be extradited and booked into the Mesa County Jail.
