Fruit Growers Sweating Freezing Weather

Palisade, Colo. (AP) Fruit growers in Western Colorado are pulling all-nighters to protect their crops from the freezing temperatures.

Orchard owners have been using wind machines to keep their peach, cherry and apricot trees from freezing. Palisade orchard owner Bob Sowell doesn't know what kind of damage has been done but he thinks some trees won't produce at their peak in late May and early June.

Sowell says some of the trees blossomed early, putting the fruit at risk.

Temperatures in Western Colorado plunged as low as 25 degrees Wednesday.

April's typically a tough month for fruit growers because of the possibility of freezing weather just when the buds are coming out.
