GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Court was back in session today for day two in the trial of Miriam Helmick, the Whitewater woman accused of killing her husband Alan back in June of 2008.

First today the jury heard from Deputy Jamie Pennay of the Mesa County Sheriff's Department. He was one of the first on scene when Miriam called 911 to report her husband Alan had been shot in the head.

Pennay was in charge of the scene at the initial call. While on the stand he says when he entered the Helmick's house, Miriam was crying, but not hysterically. He says she appeared relatively calm.

Then, they heard testimony from MSCO Deputy Joshua Quigley. He says he never saw any blood on Miriam, though the 911 dispatcher had ordered her to give Alan CPR and during the call Miriam told the dispatcher there was "a lot of blood" including "blood in his mouth.
Most recently, jurors were watching CBI crime scene video and looking at still photos of the house and the crime scene. A CBI investigator was giving testimony and explaining the images.

Then Detective Dan Norris gave testimony. Clothing worn by Alan at the time of the autopsy was admitted. Norris testified Miriam's questioning when she arrived at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office. While there, investigators took her finger and palm prints, and took her clothes to look for blood and gunshot residue.

A Colorado Bureau of Investigations Investigator took the stand and presented a video as well as photographs of the Helmick residence and evidence tags within the home. He also discussed how CBI took finger and footprints, as well as swabbed for gunshot residue.

The Prosecution also called Miriam and Alan Helmick's health insurance agent, who said it "raised the hair on the back of his neck" when Miriam called six days after Alan's death to ask for his life insurance policy payout.

Yesterday, the jury of six women and 10 men, including alternates, heard opening arguments and from various witnesses, including a 911 dispatcher, a Mesa County Sheriff's Department Deputy and the Mesa County Coroner.
