GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The competition for customers could be fierce this year between retail stores. With more people spending less because of the recession many stores are offering more deals this year holiday season.

This year Sportsman's Warehouse is bringing back their layaway plan for Christmas. And they're not the only ones offering up a little more. Mesa Mall will be handing out free stuff every Friday morning at the guest services both starting on Black Friday. They'll also be handing out shopping guides listing the best deals in the mall.

Some stores at the mall say they will also be having extra sales this year. But not all the deals will be found under this one roof.

Merchants on the 500 block of Main Street also came up with their own plan to attract shoppers.

Eighty percent of stores on the block will stay open until 9 p.m. every Friday night of the holiday season. They'll also offer free carriage rides along with other entertainment.
