Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO) – Day six of the Miriam Helmick murder trial brought Alan Helmick's daughter, Portia Vigil, to the stand.

Her testimony included what Alan and Miriam were like in the months and days before, and for Miriam, after, his murder.

Vigil talked about how her father's relationship started affecting the relationship with the rest of the family, “he was much less involved in my life and my kids’ life…he was much more distant."

Vigil said he called less, and became harder to get a hold of.
She said eventually it got so bad, she'd have to call Miriam’s phone to talk to him, but Miriam almost always said he was too busy to talk.

She said in the months following Alan’s murder, she had hardly any contact with Miriam, and if she did, it was mostly about finances.

She also looked over checks in Alan’s name from the bank.

She said they were definitely not made out in Alan’s handwriting.

The defense will cross–examine Vigil on Monday.
