Mesa County Unemployment Numbers Down
The Colorado Department of Labor released new unemployment numbers today and they are slowly getting smaller. The new numbers show that the unemployment rate has dropped across the state and here in mesa county.

The Colorado Department of Labor released new unemployment numbers today and they are slowly getting smaller. The new numbers show that the unemployment rate has dropped across the state and here in mesa county.
Across the state the rate dropped, just a little, from 7% to 6.9% and Mesa County dropped from 8.2 to an even 8%. Both numbers still quite a bit lower than the national average of 10.2%. Officials say that even though the number has slowly been dropping it doesn't necessarily mean things are looking up. "Either people are leaving the area or going back to school full time, either way they are not counted in the labor force numbers and since that number goes down the unemployment rate goes down," says Gilbert Lujan, director of the Mesa County Workforce Center.
Mesa County labor force numbers have decreased by a little more than 2,300 in the past year and more than 5,600 jobs have been lost since this time last year. Seasonal jobs are also considerably down from just last year.
Some things are looking up. State officials say that some of Colorado's biggest industries have added jobs in October. Government has added 7,300 more jobs and education and health services added 1,900 more jobs.
