After about a year of looking, Grand Junction announced its new fire chief Tuesday.
Along side interim chief Jim Bright, city manager David Varley introduced chief Ken Watkins., who is currently the deputy chief in Westminster, Co.
The new chief has been in the fire fighting business for nearly 30 years and the self described lifelong learner says he is looking forward to the challenges provided by a growing department.
"It's exciting to work in a place like that where there's a lot of things happening. I'm not worried about the changes, I'm looking forward to taking it on and helping the department become even better than they are today," Watkins said.
Watkins will take his post as chief at the end of May.
