Arrest Made In Sex Assault On Child

A 21–year–old man has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 12–year–old Clifton girl Tuesday.

Ofelio Lorenzo Acosta is facing a slew of charges including sexual assault by force, sexual assault on a child, and second degree kidnapping.

According to an arrest affidavit, Acosta sexually assaulted his girlfriend's 12–year–old daughter who was home sick from school.

The affidavit states that the victim was sitting on the couch when he leaned over and kissed her. She ran upstairs to get away and he followed her. Then he allegedly hit her in the face and unbuttoned her pants and touched her.

He told her if she screamed again he would cut her throat. When he got up to get a glass of water the 12–year–old jumped out a window onto a shed and ran to a neighbor's house.

Acosta fled the scene but later turned himself in at the Mesa County Sheriff's Office saying he wanted to clear his name, instead he was arrested.
