Black Bear Trapped Near Rifle

A black bear that was causing trouble for a beekeeper made a stop in Grand Junction Monday on the way to his new home.

The four–year–old male black bear was trapped this Monday morning west of Rifle.

The bear had been raiding and damaging bee hives in the Rullison area costing the beekeeper a lot of money. The Division of Wildlife has a two strike policy for nuisance bears; two strikes and they are put down.

The bear was tagged on both ears and his lip tattooed before being taken to his new home. He'll be relocated near the Utah border south of Grand Junction.

The beekeeper whose hives were damaged will receive some money from the Division of Wildlife to help with repairs.

Officials believe there might be another bear in the area where this one was caught and say they are going to set up more traps.
