The town of Palisade didn't give up hope that one day there would be a whitewater park on the Western Slope, and Tuesday night they took a step in making it a reality.
Palisade board members gave the go ahead to a plan that looks to relocate the proposed whitewater park about three miles south of its original proposed location. The city owns river access adjacent to the site and financial donors say they are willing to transfer funds to the new project.
Palisade Public Works Director Frank Watts says they've entered into a preliminary design phase and are looking into to getting permits. He says ideally construction on the whitewater park would begin late fall or early winter.
The city already has about $50,000 budgeted for the park.
