Man pleads guilty to striking man who later died after falling

Durango, Colo. (AP) A Wisconsin firefighter faces prison time after pleading guilty to punching a man who later died after falling backward and hitting his head on the ground.

Twenty-four-year-old Matthew Marcus Kispert of De Pere pleaded guilty this week in Durango to criminally negligent homicide in the death of 24-year-old Jonathan Parker Sheppard.

Witnesses say Sheppard was intoxicated when he taunted some firefighters who were vacationing in Durango on October 28th. They say he injured his head in a parking lot.

Police say Kispert later said he had punched Sheppard.

Kispert faces between six months and three years in prison, or more if a judge finds mitigating or aggravating circumstances.

Sentencing is scheduled for June 18th.
