Essex Junction, VT. (AP) A 25-year-old Marine has died after a bomb struck his amphibious vehicle in Iraq.

Defense department officials say corporal Christopher Degiovine died Thursday in Al Anbar province. He grew up in Vermont, but the military listed his address as Lone Tree, Colorado, where Degiovine recently lived.

He was assigned to the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine division, II Marine expeditionary Force, based at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Degiovine joined the Marine Corps in December 2005. He had been in Iraq for only two weeks.

Degiovine majored in criminal justice at Champlain College, where he graduated in 2005.

His father, Ray Degiovine, told a Vermont TV station that his son was married a year and a half ago. He says his son had a great sense of humor and was an avid golfer.
