According to the Parachute Police Department, the armed man who sent much of the town of Parachute into lock–down Wednesday is now in custody.
Just before 10:00 p.m. Thursday night a Parachute Police officer recognized 21-year-old Jared Burtard at a rest stop near Cameo.
The Palisade Police Department assisted in taking Burtard into custody on charges of felony menacing.
Police spent much of the day Wednesday searching for Burtard.
Officials say he was fighting with his brother– in– law Wednesday morning when he left the home with a loaded 22 caliber gun. Authorities put out a reverse 911 call and told residents to stay indoors while they searched for Burtard.
