GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Four Glenwood Springs teens were airlifted to Grand Junction after a serious car crash on I-70 Tuesday.
Colorado State Patrol says six teens were in the car at the time of the wreck. It happened near mile marker 86 when the driver of the 1998 Nissan Sentra lost control, went off the road and through a deer fence then became airborne over a dry creek bed. Troopers say the car hit the side of an embankment and rolled.
The driver, 17-year-old Juan Moreno-Zavala, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Grand Junction. He was wearing his seatbelt.
Passengers 19-year-old Jonathan Aguirre-Anchondo, 18-year-old Ivan Moreno-Zavala and 16-year-old Valaria Castillo weren’t wearing their seatbelts and were ejected and airlifted to Grand Junction with serious injuries.
Passengers 15-year-old Mavel Rodriguez and 16-year-old Jenny Lisseth-Medin suffered minor injuries when they were ejected from the car. Neither was wearing their seatbelt. They were taken to a Glenwood Springs hospital.
Troopers say alcohol and drugs aren’t considered factors in the crash, but speed could have been. The wreck is still under investigation.
