Two drug busts on Interstate 70 just days apart total more than 70 pounds of marijuana.
A Michigan man is in the Mesa County Jail, this after a tip from a Utah State Patrolman who pulled the suspect over earlier in the day Monday.
According to the arrest affidavit, 58-year-old Mark Conti was stopped by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office on I–70 near Fruita Monday afternoon for traveling in the passing lane.
Deputies noted the suspect was acting nervous, prompting a K–9 unit to be brought on scene. The dog alerted officers in the area of the trunk and a search revealed nine packages containing marijuana.
Officials say without the K–9 unit, the search most likely would not have been possible.
Thirty-four pounds of marijuana was taken from Conti's car and he is facing several charges, including distribution of marijuana.
