Grand Junction High School Teacher Arrested For Ethnic Intimidation & Assault

A business teacher at Grand Junction High School has been arrested and stands accused of assault and ethnic intimidation.

11 News has received a number of phone calls from parents who are upset that Michael Taylor is still teaching and they say he's setting a bad example for their children. School District 51 says they are aware of the arrest and are working closely with police.

According to an arrest affidavit, business teacher Michael Taylor is facing charges of third degree assault and ethnic intimidation.

Police say he was involved in a fight at the Ale House on the night of April 27th.

Witnesses say Taylor was in a shouting match with Gregory McQuitter, a black man from Parachute. Police say the fight got physical when Taylor yelled racial slurs at McQuitter. When McQuitter approached Taylor, Taylor and another man threw him to the ground and hit and kicked him multiple times in the face. The fight sent McQuitter to the hospital.

Police say fortunately McQuitter wasn't seriously injured, but it is a serious crime and could have been a lot worse.

District 51 officials say their first concern is the welfare of students and in this case they're following standard procedures and conducting a thorough investigation into Taylor's actions. In the meantime he continues to teach.

Taylor has been with District 51 since 1995.
