Colorado Springs, Colo. (AP) A Colorado Springs high school student was arrested on a firearms charge after school officials said they found a loaded 45-caliber handgun in his backpack.
Police Sergeant Howard Black says the 17-year-old boy had been in a fight with another student at Wasson High School Tuesday morning and later fled the building.
Black says an administrator apprehended him some distance from the school and found the weapon.
The boy's name hasn't been released.
He was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon on school grounds, disorderly conduct and interference.
Black says a police search of his home turned up a small amount of marijuana.
Earlier this month, two Wasson students were arrested for allegedly making threats in separate incidents.
Also this month, a student at Harrison High School in Colorado Springs was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder after investigators said he planned to shoot up a pep rally.
Colorado Springs School District Spokeswoman Elaine Naleski blames publicity about the Virginia Tech massacre and the end of the school year for the incidents.
She says educators see more students “acting out'' at the end of the school year.
