New Sex-Assault Charges Filed Against Teacher

Glenwood Springs, Colo. (AP) An Elizabeth High School teacher now faces additional charges following an alleged sexual encounter with a 17-year-old member of the school's football team.

Prosecutors say they've filed two additional counts against 33-year-old Darcie Esson of Parker.

She had been accused of felony sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. She now faces two such counts, plus one count of sexual assault with a pattern of abuse.

Ninth Judicial District Attorney Martin Beeson would not discuss the reasons for the additional charges, other than to say they came from “further information'' uncovered last week.

Esson allegedly had sex with the student at a hotel in Glenwood Springs last November.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19th.
