Colorado Unemployment Drops to 3.5 %

Denver (AP) Colorado labor officials said today the state's unemployment rate dipped a tenth of a percentage point to three-and-a-half percent in April.

The unemployment rate compared with four-point-four percent in April 2006 and last month's national rate of four-point-five percent.

Colorado Labor Department Chief Donald Mares says favorable conditions in the job market are offset by the sluggish national economy and rising gas prices. He also cites softness within some areas of the construction industry.

Job gains were led by professional and business services, the government, education and health care.

Job losses occurred in four sectors, construction, manufacturing, financial activities and other services.
