Standoff Ends Peacefully

A Fruita man threatening suicide by cops surrendered peacefully Friday after a nearly two hour standoff.

For a second time in two weeks, police respond to a Fruita neighborhood, this after 29-year-old Michael Fukes threatens a neighbor with violence.

More than a dozen police and swat team members responded to Fukes' house on Cleveland Street around 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. After the suspect barricaded himself inside, police were concerned not only about potential weapons, but also about a crawl space leading from the home.

Negotiators were able to coax Fukes from the home without incident.
While some neighbors believe he's a decent man, authorities say this isn't the first time the suspect has threatened violence.

Fukes was taken to the Mesa County Jail. Fukes had a warrant out for his arrest for intimidating witnesses. Further charges are pending.
