Aspen, Colo. (AP) The Colorado Department of Transportation expects to reopen Independence Pass for the summer on Thursday.
The scenic mountain pass that reaches 12, 095 feet closes each winter due to conditions.
For the past several weeks, crews have been clearing snow and debris from a 16-mile stretch of Colorado 82 between Twin Lakes and Aspen so the pass can open.
Traffic should be able to go through for Memorial Day weekend, but weather could force temporary closures.
