Wal-Mart Rewards Local Kids

You may not think to recycle plastic bags but some Grand Junction kids did and in their case it paid off.

Grand Junction's own Wingate Elementary topped all other Colorado schools who participated in the Wal-Mart Kids Recycling Challenge.

The students collected over 8,000 pounds of plastic bags to recycle.

Wal–Mart representatives provided Wingate Elementary with a check for $5515.00 for their efforts.

The kids were also rewarded with a fun assembly teaching them about the environment.

Over 200 schools across the state participated in the program.

Together they collected nearly 140,000 pounds of plastic bags that earned them a whopping $50,000.
