A Minnesota man is in the Mesa County jail facing sexual assault charges, stemming from an incident that happened more than a decade ago.
42-Year-old Christopher Butler was arraigned Friday afternoon and is facing sex assault charges after he allegedly assaulted a boy under the age of 15 back in 1993.
Butler did drive from Minnesota to turn himself in, however, District Attorney Pete Hautzinger did ask for Butler's bail to be set at $200,000, as he may be a flight risk.
The Mesa County District Attorney did attempt to convict Butler of the same charges before, but the case was thrown out due to a technicality linked to a statute of limitations.
The suspect will be back in court next week for a formal filing of charges.
