The golden anniversary of the JUCO World Series has been a constant celebration, but there is one piece missing.
For decades Sam Suplizio was at the forefront of JUCO and when he died this past New Year's Eve a huge hole was left in the tournament's golden anniversary.
But although gone, Suplizio's legacy is sure to live on.
"Sam taught us that nobody's bigger than the tournament, he taught us the fundamentals," JUCO Committee Member Bruce Hill said.
"Mr. Baseball" as Suplizio was often referred to, was given another honor this week as the City of Grand Junction has declared this as "Sam Suplizio Week."
