Protecting Victims

A bill aimed to protect victims of domestic violence, sexual offenses, and stalking is signed into law.

This new law, proposed by State Representative Steve King only took about four months to reach the governor's desk for approval.

Under the law, victims will be issued an alternate address that will be used for all public and state records. Under the program only the Secretary of State will have the actual victims address and information.

Representative Steve King says this law will help the victims of violent crimes, "More of a feeling of security. More of a feeling of getting back to one's normal way of life and lessen the chance that perpetrators of being able to re-perpetrate against the victim."

The bill will go into effect on July first.
