Authorities have released the names of the victims involved in Wednesday's fatal accident.
According to the Colorado State Patrol, when the accident happened 31–year–old Denny Hatch was driving, 24–year–old Jennifer Scarbrough was in the front seat holding Hatch's 5–year–old daughter Elizabeth. Officials say both were not wearing seatbelts. Scarbrough's 18–month–old son was also in the car in the back seat in a car seat.
Elizabeth Hatch died at the scene of the accident. Scarbrough was taken to St. Mary's Hospital with serious injuries and died five hours later.
Hatch was also taken to the hospital with moderate to serious injuries along with Scarbrough's son whose injuries are described as moderate.
Troopers say Hatch was making a left hand turn from Highway 50 onto 28 ½ Road when a van towing a trailer broadsided the car.
The driver of the van suffered only minor injuries and was treated on scene.
It took Grand Junction fire crews nearly 45 minutes to get the Hatchs and the Scarbroughs free from the wreckage.
Colorado State Patrol plans to hand over the evidence to the District Attorney's office to determine if any charges will be filed. The DA's Office expects to get that information some time next week.
