GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - A Loma woman is headed to Washington, D.C. to present President Barack Obama with her plan on how to save millions of dollars a year on health care costs.

Remember Nancy Fichtner?

11 News first introduced the Grand Junction VA Medical Center employee to you earlier this month.

Fichtner was one of 38,000 federal employees competing in the President’s SAVE Program and she won.

Her plan to save big bucks? Allow discharged patients to take home medications that are currently being thrown away.

And because money is being spend right now to discard that medicine as hazardous waste, money will be saved there, too.

Fitchner heads to Washington with her family Dec. 21.
