Tuberculosis Death

Officials didn't say much today in a press conference about who she is because of privacy laws. In fact, they wouldn't even identify her.

The El Paso County Coroner's office did give out her name. She is Kalpana Dangol, better known as Anna.

Officials say each year Colorado has about 120 cases of TB each year. They also say they can't remember the last time someone died of TB.

Anna is an international student at the Colorado State University in Pueblo. This location has about 4,000 students.

Officials believe she contracted TB in her native country, but wouldn't say what country that is.

Right now they have narrowed down a window and are looking for the names of those who have been in contact with her since February. Health officials say the possibilities of someone being infected with TB are rare.

TB is not a new thing and they all have more than enough experience with this disease and plan on using the same techniques they've been using since the 1940's to track down possible victims.

The state of Colorado does not require students to be tested for TB. That decision is left up to the school. As of now, it is not known if Colorado State University requires TB testing.

This case is not related to the other case in the news coming out of Denver where an Atlanta lawyer was quarantined at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center.
