You have probably seen kids racing down the street or gliding across the floor at the mall wearing shoes with a wheel in the heel. While they look fun and kids love them, new research finds that they can be dangerous.
Last summer one Texas hospital saw 67 injuries due to falls from roller shoes, also known as Heelys.
" When kids lean back on their heels and fall, it's frequent that they will fracture their wrists or hurt their knees," says Dr. Timothy Beck.
Research finds that girls are more likely to hurt themselves than boys. Doctors and Heelys Inc. both recommend wearing helmets and pads while wearing roller shoes.
