A three and a half year old boy is recovering after accidentally shooting himself with a 12 gauge shotgun.
The Mesa County Sheriff's Office responded to 234 1/2 Beaver Street on Orchard Mesa at around 7 p.m. Sunday for a report that a boy had shot himself in the left arm with a shotgun. The accident happened during a barbecue the boy and his mother were attending.
After the shooting emergency crews met the home owner, the boy and his mother at the Orchard Mesa City Market where the victim was picked up in an ambulance and taken to St. Mary's Hospital for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing with investigators from both the sheriff's office and the Grand Junction Police Department.
