The New Castle Fire has forced the evacuation of 90 homes in the Canyon Creek area and authorities have asked for the voluntary evacuation of another 110.
At an informational meeting Wednesday afternoon evacuees learned that only time and weather will tell when they'll be able to return home.
With the fire burning only a half mile from homes, many people only had about ten minutes to evacuate. Many Canyon Creek residents took items like photographs, birth certificates and pets before they left.
The Garfield County Sheriff who ordered the mandatory evacuations also had to evacuate his home. Sheriff Vallario says he knows how frustrating it can be for folks to have to evacuate and he hopes they can all go home soon.
