Colorado unemployment rose in December
A weak holiday shopping season and last month's cold snap are getting the blame for a rising unemployment rate in Colorado.

DENVER (AP) - A weak holiday shopping season and last month's cold snap are getting the blame for a rising unemployment rate in Colorado.
Colorado's seasonally adjusted rate increased six-tenths of one percentage point to 7.5 percent in December. In December of 2008, the rate was 5.8 percent.
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment says that the weak retail sector last month and a cold snap both played a role in the rising unemployment.
December in Colorado is typically a month of rising unemployment outside counties with ski resorts.
The annual average unemployment rate for 2009 in Colorado was 7.3 percent, an increase from 4.9 percent in 2008.
