Sheriff Hilkey running for re-election

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Sheriff Stan Hilkey says he wants to stay in office for four more years.

At the Mesa County Young Republican luncheon Monday, Hilkey announced he will run for re-election, taking advantage of the third term voters just recently approved.

Hilkey says Mesa County is making very interesting advancements in technology for law enforcement and he wants to see them through.

"We have just started our really big, important projects. Not just for the Sheriff's Office, but for all law enforcement, which translates to better, more efficient service for all citizens in Mesa County," says Hilkey.

So far, no one else is running against Hilkey for Sheriff, but he still plans to do some campaigning so members of the community can ask him any questions they might have.

That our Sheriff stands for re-election amidst a requested investigation by the FBI as to department corruption displays his assumption that the electing public has no memory or leans heavily on his skill to deliver a rousing speech to a service club. It has been well reported that he stated that there couldn't have been improper conduct as to missing money in the Paige Brigfield case since the possibly miscreant investigator made no record on a police form. Such a response by a career police officer suggests that something stinks under his control and demonstrates that this man has worn out his welcome here. If Stan Hilkey's the best that we can come up with, then shame on us and we'll deserve what we get.

I did not vote to increase term limits and will not vote for Hilkey even if it means we don't have a sheriff. His comments that he wants to start grooming a new sheriff to continue his agenda just shows his arrogance.

Great, just what we need. Another 4 years of this do nothing sheriff. You can't even get the deputies to take a report, then they go out and write more tickets to up the revenue. Vote against him.
